NEWS RELEASE
BrainPOP TERRORISM movie addresses current events, calms kids' fears
New movie presents the facts about terrorism, calms fears, and helps kids take control in the face of a frightening situation
New York, September 9, 2004 - In commemoration of the third anniversary of the September 11th attacks, BrainPOP (www.BrainPOP.com), the leading producer of animated educational movies for K-12, announces a new movie that takes on a difficult topic, TERRORISM.
We don't live in a perfect world. Adults know that. Kids do too. Children are confronted with almost daily news of terrorist activity around the world and they often do not know what to make of it:
Should we be scared?
Is there anything we can do?
What is a terrorist anyway?
BrainPOP talks terrorism with its tried and true method - giving kids the facts, speaking to them without condescension, and ultimately providing children with the tools to deal with their fears and questions constructively. By acknowledging that terrorism can be scary and then suggesting ways to cope, BrainPOP's terrorism movie helps kids take control in the face of a frightening situation.
In the movie, Tim and his robot pal Moby define terrorism and what qualifies as a terrorist act, addressing both the attacks of September 11th and the continued threats by terror groups. The characters generate a positive outcome by focusing on ways that children can stay informed and work with their families to be prepared in the event of an emergency.
"BrainPOP's terrorism movie aims to be informative as well as to generate discussion," said BrainPOP Chairman and CEO Avraham Kadar, M.D. "With
the third anniversary of September 11 approaching, we hope that the movie
will help teachers open a dialog in the classroom. We wanted to transform
fear into positive energy."
BrainPOP's terrorism movie suggests ways in which children and families can be prepared by staying on top of the news, and working together to develop a family plan and a ready kit. The movie includes a link to the website of the Department of Homeland Security, where kids can find more information about being prepared.
The TERRORISM movie is available at www.brainpop.com.
